The INTERNal Perspective of Merchandising Intern Drew Grombala

July 18, 2012

What is merchandising? What do merchandising interns do? Intern Drew Grombala explains and shares his perspective on his merchandising internship at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM in his own words for our first intern post:

If you had told me before I walked through the doors at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM that I would learn as much as I have as a merchandising intern, I simply would not have believed you. I am amazed that I am given and trusted with tasks that are important and contribute to the daily business. Each day at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM provides a new learning opportunity for me, making it enjoyable and personal rewarding to come into work.

I work in the Merchandising Department with some of the friendliest, most patient and knowledgeable people I have ever met. They are always eager to mentor me while also treating me as part of the team and not simply as “the intern.” With their guidance, I have made product-focused PowerPoint presentations that were shown during a conference of close to 70 1-800-FLOWERS.COM attendees from all over the country to showcase the new products! Analyzing sales reports, building Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides to keep track of a summer sale and reporting inventory with the vendors to make sure that they have enough products are examples of just how much I have learned here. I am beyond grateful to 1-800-FLOWERS.COM for the opportunity I will never forget and I know will benefit my future.
