1800Flowers.com Summer of a Million Smiles Program Warms Hearts at Somerset Gardens

In celebration of National Smile Week, the 1-800-Flowers.com Smile Team was thrilled to take part in a very special Summer of a Million Smiles Event at the Somerset Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Plainview, NY.

“We could not have chosen a better venue to deliver smiles and make a difference,” explains Smile Ambassador and 1-800-Flowers.com employee Susan Capurso. “Not only did we send smiles, but we also received hugs, kisses and so much gratitude from the residents at the Facility that it warmed our hearts and spirits more then we could have imagined.”

As the Smile Team walked through the door that afternoon, the residents were already anxiously awaiting their arrival. The team set up a table filled with balloons, where 1-800-Flowers.com employee and expert floral designer Phil DeVito began creating some truly original arrangements. As Phil crafted a Happy Hour Bouquet®, a Smile Bouquet™, an a-DOG-able® arrangement and a bouquet in a personalized Summer of Smiles Vase, the rest of the team handed out carnations to the residents—and four lucky winners with gold ribbons around their carnations got to keep an arrangement!

The event ended with two fun trivia games. Testing the residents’ “flower knowledge”, the team held up a picture, and the first person to guess the flower variety won a small plant for their room. After going through many different flowers, the team then quizzed the residents on fun facts of the past, which led to even more exciting giveaways and endless smiles!

1-800-Flowers.com employee Craig Aquino summed up the enthusiasm of the entire team by saying, “What an awesome day! I’d love to do this all the time!” The impact of the event also touched 1-800-Flowers.com employee Del Thomas Washington: “All of the good feelings rushed back to me when visiting my Aunt this week. I’d love if we could visit every facility like this on Long Island!”

All in all, the Smile Team enjoyed a great day at Somerset Gardens! “We did so much more then send smiles that day,” said Susan. “It was a great experience for all of us involved and we surely can’t wait to see the magic and wonders that this program brings to those in the future.”
