Business Analyst
Location: Carle Place, NY
Position Type: Full-Time

Summary

The principal responsibilities of a Business Analyst are working with all levels of staff in the 1800Flowers.com Brand and Shared Service units to gather/define/elaborate/manage requirements, to evaluate and recommend alternatives to meet requirements, and to assist in the implementation of the overall solution.

This position will also assist with project planning, project definition, risk management, systems analysis, and related project documentation.


Job Responsibilities

  • Works with product owners to identify and create business process models, task definitions and service definitions for the project(s)
  • Facilitates requirements gathering/definition/elaboration meetings and/or interviews with project stakeholders / user community
  • Define functional, usability, reliability, performance and supportability requirements in partnership with users for the development and maintenance of software systems.
  • Documents workflows and results of business analysis and obtaining sign-off from product owners on specifications
  • Partners with product owners in gathering all requirements to formulate business specifications and translating those into application functionality via user stories
  • Assists in ensuring high level design are accurately documented and mapped to approved requirements
  • Helps determines alternative approaches to business issues, and selects optimal solutions to the business issues
  • Constructs activity/process models as may be required to support user stories
  • Assists in testing the developed solution in accordance with User Acceptance criteria
  • Analyzes and summarize test results for incorporation into user stories
  • Facilitates the communication of business and technical requirements among the appropriate business and technical communities
  • Works with Software Engineers to analyze and develop conceptual design of application / system components
  • Documents business processes via models using MS Visio
  • Identifies and report risks throughout the life of the project and provide options to the business units for mitigation strategies
  • Prepares business rule and software development specifications from which systems or applications will be constructed
  • Promotes and develops communication between assigned business units, technical staff and vendors to integrate information systems with cross-functional and/or enterprise wide business requirements
  • Analyzes application/system enhancement requests and participate in Backlog Grooming process
  • Facilitates workshops to support requirements demonstrations to business stakeholders
  • Maintains knowledge of all candidate 1-800-Flowers systems and projects

Process

  • Helps to maintains the backlog & user stories for project initiatives
  • Identifies areas for process improvement opportunities
  • Ensures all project artifacts are properly cataloged and persisted in the project management system
  • Supports the defined project process
  • Continuous dedication to process improvement on the 18F Service Center Project Process

Communication / Reporting

  • Ensures thorough, timely, and consistent communication is disseminated to the appropriate teams
  • Ensures thorough, timely, and consistent communication within the project team
  • Advises project sponsors on related issues
  • Assists in coordination of approvals and sign-offs as required by appropriate personnel
  • Ensures effective communication and collaboration between IT functions

Education/Experience:

  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum software development practices
  • Knowledge of Rally tools
  • Experience with use cases and business modeling techniques
  • Experience with requirements gathering and management
  • Experience with Change Management
  • Knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and practice
  • Experience working collaboratively with business owners, subject matter experts, and Software Engineering teams during the requirements, design, coding, testing and implementation phases
  • Experience working with software engineering teams
  • Excellent use of MS Suite of Products, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Visio
  • Experience in process engineering would be preferred
