The History of Junior?s
Founder Harry Rosen dropped out of high school and got work as a soda jerk during the 1920s, eventually opening a string of sandwich shops of his own in Manhattan called the Enduro.
By the 1930s, he had opened another Enduro on the corner of the Flatbush Avenue Extension and DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn. He soon closed his Manhattan shops and focused solely on his Brooklyn location.
The Enduro, which was a bar with live entertainment as well as a steakhouse, lived up to its? name, surviving the Great Depression and the Second World War. But in 1950, Harry decided it was time for a change. After a year-long renovation, he closed the Enduro and reopened under a new moniker: Junior?s. He chose the name Junior?s as a salute to his two sons, Walter and Marvin.
During the early years of Junior?s, Harry and Eigel Peterson, the master baker, created the secret formula for Junior?s cheesecake recipe and it has been part of the Rosen family for three generations.
Junior?s cheesecake still hails from the mighty borough of Brooklyn and is a favorite stop for tourists and locals alike. The cheesecake was rated #1 by New York Magazine in the 1970?s and in 1982, Governor Mario Cuomo declared May 27th as Junior?s Restaurant Day. In 1989, Junior?s cheesecake became available through mail-order.
Today, people everywhere can enjoy a slice of creamy perfection! Our selection of Junior?s Famous Cheesecakes lets you send this taste sensation straight to their home for Fall get-togethers, as a delightful birthday surprise, or as a stunning desert for their Thanksgiving table.
