Business Development Intern Brittany Kritis

“Working at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM has been a unique and enriching experience. I grew up being very familiar with business terms, as my dad has established a successful business of his own. When I was hired as an intern I was confident in my understanding of the business world, however I now consider my “understanding” as elementary compared to the wisdom I have gained since working with the company in 2012. My experience interning with the International team confirmed my passion for providing services to people all over the world and expanding my knowledge of cultural barriers in growing a business.

“I have returned for my second summer in a row to find that the company has grown just as I had grown during my first year at Fairfield University. Working with my manager in Business Development has been an enlightening and educational experience. Not only have I learned the methods used to utilize and expand a company’s resources but I have also acquired skills to support my future career. My various projects include drafting and comparing sales techniques, participating in meetings, and collecting relevant data for plans and proposals. I have also arranged proposals to help bolster the company’s initiatives for expansion.
“I was especially impressed by the commitment to charity work that the company encourages within the local community. During our Summer of a Million Smiles Event, I worked with Surfer’s Way, an organization that empowers children with special needs by giving them the opportunity to surf. I have found that 1-800-FLOWERS.COM is truly committed to delivering smiles, even on a hot beach in 100º weather.

“I value and appreciate the sense of belonging to a company that is concerned with advancing its methods of service as well as supporting local communities. It is truly inspiring working with a talented and colorful group of people that are abundant with new ideas, just like the stunning works of art they provide to an ever-expanding local and global community.
