When winter comes barreling in, the cold weather makes us do things to keep us warm: drink hot cocoa, slurp soup, hang out by the fireplace, bundle up should we dare to brave the elements. But why can’t we eat something that’s refreshing? It is winter after all, and what’s more refreshing this time of year than citrus?

Winter is the season of grapefruit. (Yes, oranges, too, but it’s grapefruits’ time to shine!) This remarkable citrus, known for its mouth-puckering flavor, can be added to cocktails, fish dishes, and much more, like, well, salads. This avocado grapefruit salad takes delicate arugula greens and layers buttery avocado with tangy grapefruit for a refreshing winter meal.
