Meet Abe Adler, CRM and Business Analytics

What is your title and what do you do at 1-800-Flowers? How long have you been with the company? What do you like best about your job?
I am part of the Analytics and Decision Support team in charge of CRM and Business analytics. I have been with 1800flowers.com since March 2012, with our team being responsible for managing the analysis, reporting and segmentation of our Flower brand.

What I like most about my job is that it allows us integrate something that makes people smile with something that usually makes people cringe. Many people have a fear of numbers and data, yet by utilizing this data and information we are better able to deliver the right smiles to the right people.

1-800-Flowers’ main mission is to deliver smiles. What about being a Dad makes you smile?
Seeing my kids overcome their challenges and have pride in their work makes me smile.

Being a father, however, is something that I think about every day. It is the most important part of my life. Having a day to celebrate that is nice.

At 1-800-Flowers we’re all about creating truly original arrangements. What makes your kid(s) truly original?
I have 6 children, ranging in age from 21 all the way down to 8 years old: 4 boys and 2 girls. Although they may look similar, their personalities are very different. However, even though they hate to admit it, they all have my sense of humor.

Since this is our special Father’s Day edition of the Employee Spotlight, what do you like most about Father’s Day?
I always felt funny celebrating my birthday. After all, I didn’t do anything for that to happen. Being a father, however, is something that I think about every day. It is the most important part of my life. Having a day to celebrate that is nice.

What is your favorite Father’s Day gift from 1-800-Flowers and why?
My favorite Father’s Day gift is the Dwarf Jade Bonsai Plant. I like that it’s compact enough to sit on my desk yet big enough to make me smile.

Tell us your favorite dad story.
My favorite dad story comes during a school production many years ago. My son was up on stage and I had a clear view of both my son and my father. During the production I was not only smiling at my son’s performance but also at the smile that I saw on my father’s face as he watched my son. My father later told me that not only was he smiling at my son but also at my happiness. Like father, like son, I guess.

What is your favorite flower or plant and why?
Exotic Breeze™ Orchids.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned about flowers and plants during your time here?
That azaleas are a plant.
