Sometimes, a career and passion converge in the most unexpected ways. Such is the story for Jacquelyn Kazas, an Amazing Mom with an unwavering enthusiasm for celebration and co-founder of Beijos Events based in Southern California. Jacquelyn’s own experience ignited her love of planning. “I worked closely with a planner for my wedding, and I loved the process. The flowers, the tables — and her energy,” she recalls. This spark inspired her to delve into event planning with her wedding planner as her guiding light during the early stages of starting her business.

Jacquelyn’s first foray into planning was for her best friend’s wedding, where she offered her services free of charge so she could build out her portfolio. “My friend has impeccable taste and allowed me the creative freedom to explore,” she shares. The wedding garnered attention on a popular wedding blog, propelling Beijos Events to flourish. The name “Beijos” means “kisses” in Portuguese, an homage to Jacquelyn’s heritage and her grandmother’s favorite term of endearment.

Now the proud mother of two boys (Court, 11, and Cruz, 8), Jacquelyn crafts once-in-a-lifetime events for celebrators of all ages — though her specialty lies in orchestrating enchanting children's parties that have cultivated a following on Pinterest and beyond. The Beijos Events website is a treasure trove of imaginative themes like Neverland, Under the Sea, and the Pink Pony Club. Below, Jacquelyn shares insights into how she brings iconic parties to life, what it’s like to be a mom and business owner, her favorite summer blooms, and how she juggles it all.

Let’s get this party started

Planning begins with an initial call, where clients share their inspiration, vision, and, most importantly, a focal point. "I kick off our brainstorming sessions by identifying the main takeaway for the event,” says Jacquelyn. Some clients prioritize tablescapes, food, or decor, while others want a fully immersive experience where every detail is a priority. No matter what, though, Jacquelyn swears a party doesn’t start until the flowers arrive.

“When crafting mood boards, I always focus on florals — finding different elements with color and texture that will enhance the event,” she explains. “Flowers breathe life into celebrations; they complete the vision.” Among her favorites are dahlias, zinnias, and marigolds alongside sunflowers and daisies.

The key to kids' parties

At Beijos Events, the goal is to celebrate what kids love most at that specific age. Drawing inspiration from experiences with her own children, she continually taps into what delights them, which informs her creative ideas.

“When my son was three, he wanted to wear a cape every day,” says Jacquelyn. “That year we did a superhero party. You want to remember that moment and what was special to them at that point in time.”

And when it comes to kids’ parties, Jacquelyn makes sure there’s an activity. “We incorporate fun crafts to unleash their creativity, and bounce houses are always a hit.”

A mom who does it all

Jacquelyn credits her strong work ethic to her upbringing. Her father, who immigrated from Portugal, taught her the value of hard work and gratitude.

While balancing the demands of motherhood and owning an events business is no small feat, Jacquelyn says the rewards of creative expression and helping bring people's visions to life are worth the challenges. “Entertaining is my love language,” Jacquelyn says. “The creative process of bringing something new and unique to life is invigorating.”

She’s also grateful for the flexibility her career has given her and how she gets to share her work with her children. Jacquelyn has been bringing her kids to work with her since they were infants, so it’s no wonder they were so comfortable on the set of our summer photoshoot. “It’s made me want to work harder for them,” she says.

Jacquelyn says motherhood has been both her greatest joy and her top priority. “My boys are incredibly cuddly and affectionate, which I adore,” she says. “They fill me with joy and pride every single day.”

What Jacquelyn’s loving now

We asked the party planner extraordinaire to share the trends she’s loving for summer.

Mediterranean vibes

Always on the lookout for fresh ideas, Jacquelyn loves a Mediterranean vibe. “It’s all about ‘Sardine Girl Summer,’ which evokes vibrant Mediterranean colors that are both fun and eclectic,” she enthuses.

Pops of red

She’s also loving Tomato Girl Summer for adding bold color to events. “Red can be a tricky color, but I enjoy playing with it,” she says. “It adds vitality and charm to our celebrations.”
