This week, Patrick, Madison and Simone from the Marketing Team discuss their internships. Though they are all part of the Marketing Team, each intern has a unique experience since they are a part of different departments.

INTERNal Perspective: Patrick Hartnett

PatrickHartnettEmail Marketing Intern

My name is Patrick Hartnett and I am an intern on the Email Marketing Team here at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM. I am a rising junior at Binghamton University where I am majoring in Business Management with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Spanish.

In the first few weeks of my internship, I was immediately immersed in the fast-paced work environment of a corporation. With no previous corporate experience, my time here at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM has been eye-opening. As a member of the Email Team, I have had the chance to interact with a variety of teams including Creative, Merchandising and Web. This exposure to different areas of business has helped me learn the everyday rhythms of a corporate work environment.

In respect to email marketing, my internship experience has showed me how much hard-work and dedication goes into every single email. The Email Team works weeks in advance to plan out and create the email campaigns that will be the most effective in connecting with the customer. Overall, my experience at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM has been invaluable. I am very happy to be an intern here and I am excited to see what the rest of my internship has in store!

INTERNal Perspective: Madison Marisi

When searching for a summer internship, I was looking for a rewarding experience that would help me develop my professional skills in an encouraging environment. I can safely say that after only a few weeks, the 1-800-Flowers.com internship program has offered all that and more. While interning in the Franchise Marketing department, I had a chance to explore how marketing applies to 1-800-Flowers.com franchisees and network of local florists. One of the projects that I was given the opportunity to work on is the Local Exclusive program, which gives local florists the chance to showcase their most unique and original designs on 1-800-Flowers.com. It is great to interact with the florists and get to hear the daily challenges of running a local floral business. One of the most rewarding moments so far was receiving a phone call from a grateful and excited franchisee who had just received their first order through the program.

This experience has allowed me to learn firsthand about integral parts of the company beyond the marketing department. The intern weekly meetings give us a chance to interact with employees in different departments and hear how their work impacts the company as a whole. I also had a chance to spend some time in the 1-800-Flowers.com store in Carle Place. This was a great opportunity that allowed me to see face-to-face how the local florists run their businesses.

Not only am I learning from the work I am doing, but I am also learning from the helpful and encouraging people around me. The 1-800-Flowers.com internship program has created such an inclusive environment that always makes me feel like a valuable member of the team, even when speaking with the most senior members. Many of the most important things that I’ve learned have come from helpful co-workers who took the time to answer all of my questions. I have already learned much more than what you can be taught in school and cannot wait to see what the remaining weeks will bring!

INTERNal Perspective: Simone Burgard

This summer, I’ve had the privilege of being an intern here at 1-800-Flowers.com in the Loyalty Marketing department. As soon as I walked into the office on my first day, I felt an overwhelming wave of friendliness. Everyone in the office welcomed me with a smile and wished me luck as I began my summer. I’ve seen this kindness throughout my summer here and it’s one of the company’s best qualities.

Interning at 1-800-Flowers.com is an empowering and rewarding experience. Every day, I am applying the skills and knowledge I’ve learned in my undergraduate education at Bentley University to my experience here. I have daily responsibilities and am treated as an equal part of the team. My manager and peers are exceptional and patient educators. With their guidance, I learn something new every day about the corporate and e-commerce world. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work for a company with a family orientated atmosphere and strong core values. I know my time here will only lead to bigger and better opportunities in my professional career.
