Gen Z Gifts: Our Interns Share Their Favorites

Buying gifts is fun, but, of course, it’s easier if you have an idea of what the recipient likes. And when it comes to Gen Z, that insight can be elusive. Between the speed at which Gen Z-ers launch themselves through life and their laser-focused-yet-fleeting interests, keeping up with them can seem impossible.

Take a breath. These 18- to 24-year-olds love fun, unusual gifts, and, since they are often either living in dorms or a starter apartment, gravitate toward cool but practical home-style items. They also go for tasty treats to share with friends.

Every summer we introduce our interns to the sprawling variety of products under the 1-800-Flowers.com umbrella and enjoy watching as they quickly become intimately familiar with our brands. After their 10 weeks with us are over, we’re curious: What’s their favorite gift item? Here’s what they told us before they headed back to college.

Care package 101

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Caroline McLoughlin of the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Although Caroline McLoughlin says she “would send the Smile Farms Enjoy Your Day Cookie Gift Box to a friend because there’s nothing better than receiving cookies in the mail,” we suspect she might be delighted to receive this assortment herself. After all, with six different cookie flavors, roommates and friends can share the wealth.

As Caroline notes, the cookies help support Smile Farms, 1-800-Flowers.com’s signature philanthropic partner. The organization creates meaningful work opportunities for people with disabilities in agriculture and hospitality. “They’re helping a great cause,” she says.

Another gift that’s perfect for sharing? The Chicken Wing Cake Box Surprise, a favorite of intern Johnny Bonilla, who worked in our Growth Marketing department.

“This gift makes for a fun moment when people are gathered around,” Johnny explains. “We tested it in the office, and it was a memorable experience!”

When you open the chicken-themed box, feathers pop out and music starts. Then, you see the “chicken wings” — made of cake — and “hot sauce,” which is raspberry sauce for dipping. It’s a delicious novelty gift.

Green gifts

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Khushi Thakkar of The George Washington University.

IT intern Khushi Thakkar fell in love with Sammy the Sloth over the summer. She says she’ll happily share him with others, “because plants tend to last longer than flowers, so my friends can appreciate the gift longer. Also, I think the cute sloth would liven up their space (and I love how he hangs from the ceiling!).”

The Sammy the Sloth ceramic hanging planter arrives with a trailing mini Boston fern plant. FYI: Sammy is just as content relaxing on a desk or windowsill as hanging from the ceiling. He’s a chill guy.

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Emma Lanza of the University of Delaware.

Emma Lanza went green too, choosing the lush Grand Gardenia in an antique-inspired planter as her favorite.

“I would buy this product as a gift because my friends love to have and grow plants in their rooms, and this is a present that will last for a while.”

The Grand Gardenia comes in various sizes to suit different budgets and includes the option of adding a Yankee Candle® in a fresh gardenia scent as a bonus.

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by David Park of Baruch College.

Safari Animal Succulents are a fun yet practical favorite selected by David Park, who interned in our Vendor Relations department.

“These would make a great gift because they are long-lasting ornaments with cute designs that everyone can enjoy. The succulents enjoy indirect sunlight, and the animal pots are very small, so placement is very flexible.”

David also notes that succulents are easy to care for, so people with no plant experience don’t need to freak out! You can buy the animals as a set of three or choose your favorite separately.

Making it personal

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Jonathan Elkowit of University at Buffalo.

Jonathan Elkowitz, who interned in our Florist Operations department, voted for our customizable beer glasses. You can get four lines of text etched onto the Beer Label Personalized 16oz. Pint Glass, which is made in the U.S.

“I chose this because it’s an affordable product that I know my friends would use every day,” Jonathan says.

If the glass is a hit, consider adding a beer pitcher option for especially thirsty friends.

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Genevieve Gutman of New York Law School.

Our Deluxe Weekender Embroidered Tote caught Legal intern Genevieve Gutman’s eye.

“It is both useful and fashionable,” she explains. “It’s nostalgic, too, because it is a tote that’s reminiscent of a lot of [Gen Z’s] childhoods because their parents used it often.”

The bag comes in three colors and is made of sturdy heavy-weight natural canvas. Pockets inside and out make stashing items a breeze, and it even has a handy key holder.

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Jacob Mikelberg of Brandeis University.

Jacob Mikelberg, who interned with the Business Gift Services team, says the Authentic Personalized 50 Cal Ammo Box would garner rave reviews from his friends.

“It is incredibly unique and a gift few people would think of,” he says, stressing the novelty and authenticity of the item.

Indeed, this is a genuine, used military surplus item, and there may be very authentic scratches, scuffs, and dents! You can personalize the steel box with a name and one line of text.

Fun DIY gifts

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Zolia Mendez of Pace University.

Customer insights intern Zoila Mendez gushes over the DIY Painting Set with Wine.

“I absolutely adore the concept of spending quality time with a friend or loved one through this creative and enjoyable activity,” she says.

The set for two comes complete with two paint-by-number canvases, a corresponding numbered paint set, paint brushes, and a bottle of full-bodied Harry & David™ Ross Lane Red to help the artistic juices flow.

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Andrea Hayman of Hamilton College.

Whether you’re a fan of plants or crafts, the DIY Macrame Plant Hanger Kit has you covered, raves Andrea Hayman, who interned with the Growth Marketing team.

“I like that it’s an interactive gift and something a friend could use for one of their plants,” Andrea explains. “It’s also an affordable price, and something I would be happy to receive as well!”

The kit is perfect for macramé beginners and includes natural-color cotton rope, a wooden ring and beads, and a sturdy ceiling hook on which to display your finished work.

Birthday bounty

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Tasfia Shaikh of Stony Brook University.

Customer experience intern Tasfia Shaikh didn’t hesitate: She would be thrilled to receive the Sweet Succulent Heart Garden for her birthday.

“I love how the succulents are arranged in a heart shape. It is a very unique product and a long-lasting decoration for any room.”

She adds: “It is also easy to care for, making it a perfect gift for anyone who is interested in plants.”

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by James Sladky of Marist College.

The Birthday Candle & Cookies Gift was Fruit Operations intern James Sladky’s top choice.

His reasoning? “I like how it is two gifts in one: They enjoy the cookies and then get to savor the smell of them for weeks after, and they will always be reminded of the gift.”

A dozen buttercream-frosted birthday cake cookies are included, along with a candle of the same delicious scent.

Gen Z gifts graphic, with recommendation by Olivia Schulman of the University of South Carolina.

Customer Insights intern Olivia Schulman singled out the Anne Bracelet as her favorite product.

“I think this would be the perfect gift to send to a friend,” she says. “The bracelet is simple, timeless, and perfect for layering with other bracelets or wearing alone.”

The gold paper-clip design comes in three sizes.

The Greatest Wedding Anniversary Gift Guide. Ever.

wedding anniversary is a time for spouses to look back on one of the most magical days of their lives. And the tradition of celebrating a marriage on the same day every year is nearly as old as the institution itself.

History of the wedding anniversary

The first recorded wedding ceremony dates back to 2350 B.C. in Mesopotamia, but the practice of celebrating the occasion one year later didn’t catch on for quite some time.

While the exact date of the first wedding anniversary is somewhat dubious, some researchers believe the tradition began, as many things did, with the ancient Romans. Others believe the first recorded wedding anniversary happened in Germany sometime between the 16th and 17th centuries.

anniversary gift guide couple celebrating in kitchen

It wasn’t until the mid-1800s, in Germany and England, when significant marriage milestones — years 25 and 50 — were celebrated with a gift. In those days, to still be alive and together after that many years was considered quite a feat. (One could argue that still being alive and together for a 50th wedding anniversary is quite a feat even these days.) On the 25th anniversary, couples would be given a wreath made of silver. If they made it to their 50th anniversary, they received a wreath made of gold — each metal representing the strength of the relationship.

Traditional vs. modern anniversary gifts

Silver and gold are still the traditional gift for the 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries today. It wasn’t until post-Industrial Revolution consumerism that gifts were given on a more annualized basis, with the value of the gift increasing year after year, as if to say, “Congratulations for staying married another year!” Or, more flippantly, “You’re totally worth it, babe!”

Today, most anniversary gifts fall into two categories: traditional and modern. The notion of “modern” was first introduced in 1937 by the American National Retail Jewelers Association, which saw an opportunity to capitalize on celebrating significant life milestones with fine jewelry. Fun fact: It was this same association that standardized birthstones in 1912.

Anniversary gift guide for the 21st century couple

Not sure if your better half falls into a more traditional or modern gift camp? That’s OK. The secret to giving the perfect gift that says “I love you” is simple: Make it personal and unique, just like the couple you are.

1st anniversary | Modern | Clocks

Your first wedding anniversary is a celebration of the year you’ve spent together since you said “I do.” This engraved heart clock is the perfect modern gift to symbolize the first 12 months that have passed, and the time you have ahead as a couple. Choose from three verse options to appropriately express your feelings, and then add your own ending sentiment or message to create a truly unique — and “timeless” —keepsake.

2nd anniversary | Traditional | Cotton

There’s nothing quite like the touch or feel of cotton. It’s the fabric of our lives. Why not wrap your significant other in an embroidered bathrobe that’s made of luxurious velour on the outside and plush terry cotton on the inside? Unwrap at your own discretion.

3rd anniversary | Modern | Crystal/Glass

Can you even call it an anniversary celebration if there are no bubbles dancing in a Champagne flute? This pair of crystal stemware can be etched with your choice of design, names, anniversary year, and date. Add a sparkling wine and chiller gift set, and you’ll be all set for a romantic evening. You can even throw on those robes you bought last year to help set the mood.

4th anniversary | Traditional | Fruit

Year four is traditionally about fruit or flowers. For this special occasion, we’ve taken the simple strawberry and given it a coating of decadence by dipping and drizzling each berry in milk, dark, or white chocolate, and then decorating it in seasonal toppings and festive glitter. Don’t worry, the glitter is safe to eat. If your sweet isn’t a strawberry lover (or glitter admirer), you can also choose gourmet chocolate and caramel-covered apples or elegant Belgian chocolate-dipped dried fruit. Feeding each other is up to you.

5th anniversary | Traditional | Wood

As author Fran Lebowitz once said, “Vegetables are interesting but lack a sense of purpose when unaccompanied by a good cut of meat.” If your spouse has a fondness for straight-from-the grill goodness, consider presenting them an anniversary meal with a perfectly seared bone-in ribeye or juicy shrimp on this live-edge Acacia wood serving board with leather handles.

6th anniversary | Traditional | Candy

The gift of chocolate has long meant love and passion. And, according to a study conducted by Dr. Jennifer Nasser at Drexel University, consuming chocolate releases dopamine in the brain, causing feelings of pleasure, excitement, and euphoria. This beautifully gift-wrapped box of artisanal Champagne truffles from world-renowned Belgian chocolatier Neuhaus is just what the doctor ordered.

7th anniversary | Traditional | Copper

If you’re fortunate enough to be a homeowner by this point in your marriage (no guarantee these days), you may be looking for a way to announce to the world how much you love each other and the exact day you were wed in holy matrimony. Fortunately for you, this personalized love birds plaque (which isn’t actually made of copper but does come in a convincing-looking copper finish) will accomplish both, not to mention make you the talk of the block (at least until your copycat neighbors across the street get one of their own.)

8th anniversary | Modern | Linens

By the eighth year of marriage, you are most likely all set in the linens department. A fresh take on the gift of linen is this fun and flirty personalized love letter pillow on which you can express your most heartfelt feelings for your one and only.

9th anniversary | Traditional | Pottery

Your love for each other has grown like a flower, so why not get something to put those beautiful blooms in that you surely brought home on this most wonderful day? (You did remember to get flowers for the occasion, didn’t you???) This vase is decorated with a pretty floral design, and you can customize it with a sweet message that carries special meaning to just the two of you.

10th anniversary | Traditional | Tin

No matter how you describe it, tin is not a sexy metal. But add three mouth-watering popcorn flavors — butter, cheese, and caramel — into a four-gallon, decorated tin bucket, and you have the makings of the perfect anniversary night of Netflix and chill.

15th anniversary | Modern | Watches

At this point in your marriage, you may be thinking, “My how time flies!” This elegant vegan leather watch box allows you to engrave special dates of the important moments you’ve shared together into the glass top. Removing the included velvet-like watch cuffs easily converts the watch box into a treasured jewelry box.

20th anniversary | Traditional | China

You bought the winethe cheese, the charcuterie, the crackers, and the bread for a romantic picnic at home. Now, what to serve it on? How about these elegant appetizer plates that will give you the feeling of eating in a fine dining restaurant? Don’t forget the matching metal plate holder. You could forget it, but it’s you’re anniversary — go for it!

30th anniversary | Traditional | Pearl

Modeled after the art nouveau Lilies of the Valley House of Fabergé egg from 1898, this stunning hand-painted Fabergé trinket box embellished with 24K gold, Matashi crystals, and pearls will melt the heart of a lifelong or novice Fabergé collector.

40th anniversary | Traditional and Modern | Ruby

In addition to being a modern symbol of “passion” and “love,” the precious ruby is believed to protect its wearer by keeping evil at bay. No wonder Dorothy didn’t wear amethyst slippers. Even if it’s just folklore, a gift of silver ruby earrings is sure to rekindle the flame. If neither of you is into jewelry, but you do have a thing for citrus, then sharing a box of avocados will do the trick. The health benefits of these rich, nutty fruits are known to help in the romance department.

Fifty years…congratulations! This golden anniversary milestone will most likely be shared with loved ones of all ages and palates. The Ultimate Premium Gift Basket offers you, and your family and friends, nearly 20 different gourmet delights. It’s more than a gift — it’s an entire celebration. (Well, not entire…you’ll still want to add some wine.) And don’t forget to request your free gift from the White House.

Bridal Shower Gift Ideas and Etiquette: Your Questions, Answered

Popping the question brings more events than just a wedding. In the ensuing months (and, in some cases, years), friends and family want to bask in the glow of the happy couple. It’s no wonder, then, that the calendar starts to fill up with celebrations like engagement parties, bridal showers (and Jack and Jill parties), and bachelor and bachelorette parties.

Haven’t been to a bridal shower in a while? First things first: The accepted term now is “wedding shower,” to ensure all forms of future marriages are welcomed. Regardless of what you call it, a shower is an opportunity for partygoers to help the new couple build their life together, says Jamie Mussolini, destination wedding planner and founder of Beachfronts Travel.

10 most-asked wedding shower questions

There’s a lot to know about wedding shower etiquette. Here, Mussolini shares 10 tips for wading through the shower waters, plus bridal shower gift ideas for every type of couple.

1. What do showers look like these days?

Wedding showers are no longer just an afternoon tea party with the bride’s best friends and close family members. More and more, these events are extravagant affairs, with the guest list consisting of couples. “Some are women-only luncheons or cocktail parties, but in modern days people even have evening showers with a cocktail hour and dinner party,” Mussolini says. Themed events, such as a lingerie shower, are still popular, too.

In addition to traditional gatherings for a bride and/or groom, there are also parties for two grooms or two brides. These are more likely to involve guests from both sides of the wedding party and usually include both men and women.

2. How many guests are invited?

Showers aren’t the intimate affairs of the past. The total number of guests can range anywhere from 30 to 100 — lean towards the higher end if the event is an evening party.

3. Who throws it?

Almost anyone can throw a shower, from the mother of the bride to the maid of honor and bridesmaid party to even the couple themselves, if they are in a position to pay for it. And who says you have to stop at one? Many brides have multiple showers (just be sure the guest list is different for each). Coworkers may want to host a small party for colleagues to honor the happy couple.

4. Does the bride-to-be still sit on a chair and open everyone’s gifts at the event?

Yes! Sometimes gifts will be sent to the address on file with a registry, but a wrapped gift brought to the shower is customary. “The bride or groom opens cards and goes through physical gifts that are there, and usually has a list to say thank you to the guests that have mailed gifts and mentions those items,” Mussolini says. And, she adds, don’t forget about thank you notes!

For the couple who is just starting out, they need to build their home with basic things.

5. What’s the price range for a shower gift?

Gifts usually start at $75 per recipient and go up from there.

Mussolini advises shower guests to choose from the registry. “It makes it easy, and then you know that you’re giving something the couple really wants,” she says. That said, you’re welcome to choose anything that you think would make the two of them happy.

6. Should you buy a gift from the bridal shower registry?

Mussolini advises shower guests to choose from the registry. “It makes it easy, and then you know that you’re giving something the couple really wants,” she says. That said, you’re welcome to choose anything that you think would make the two of them happy.

7. What are some typical bridal shower gift ideas?

Mussolini’s picks: Bedding, china, kitchenware, monogramed bath towelscutting boards, custom mugs, custom cake server and knife, personalized coastersphoto framesbathrobesluggagegifts for the wedding day, and small appliances like an air fryer, toaster, mixer, or teapot. “The newest present is a gift certificate toward the honeymoon,” she says.

If you’re buying for a couple that is already living together, you might want to look beyond everyday essentials. “Think more out-of-the-box for them, with lovely vases, furniture, rugs, or items for hosting their next holiday or festive event,” Mussolini says. “But for the couple who is just starting out, they need to build their home with basic things.”

bridal shower gift ideas friends giving gifts drinking tea

8. Do attendees go in on group gifts?

If there is a larger item the couple really wants, guests will sometimes pool funds to get a group gift.

9. What about cash?

Cash is always acceptable, but often the couple will register for a gift card. Certain sites have the option to contribute to a honeymoon event, such as dinner out or spa treatments, Mussolini says.

10. What if you can’t go to the shower? Do you send a gift with your regrets?

Most people usually send a gift or, at the very least, a note expressing their happiness for the couple and that they’re looking forward to attending the wedding, if they are able.

Bridal shower gift ideas

There are a lot of choices out there when hunting for a wedding shower gift. Use this helpful guide to help you choose the perfect present for any kind of bride or groom.

Unique choices

Sometimes a couple doesn’t know what they need. If that’s the case, try a themed present, such as a lavender spa kit, or a gift that keeps on giving all year, like a membership to the Plant of the Month club.

Last-minute picks

Forgot to shop? Order a monthly or quarterly delivery from a trusted purveyor of fine foods, such as Harry & David, and let the recipient know in a beautiful card to expect its arrival. Or send a same-day delivery of a beautiful orchid or flower bouquet to the guests of honor’s home. They’ll appreciate the gesture of continuing the festivity of the day for a few more weeks when they look at their gift.

Ideas for cohabiters

Engaged couples who have already started a home together appreciate presents on the higher end since they likely have the basics. A gorgeous engraved ice bucket or a custom piece of wall art indicates that they have taken the next step together in their shared lives.

Globetrotter gifts

For their upcoming honeymoon and all the travel the couple will do over the course of their lifetime, a canvas tote bag or duffel will likely last them the length of their marriage. Personalization gives it an added sentimental touch that the duo will carry with them every time they grab it to head to the beach or for a long weekend of leaf peeping.

Bath buys

His and her bathrobes are luxury items that most couples won’t purchase for themselves and are happy to have at home (or at the honeymoon hotel!). If you think it’s more appropriate for just the bride, try a silky one with “Mrs. New Last Name Here” emblazoned on the back (just make sure to check that the bride is changing her name!). Monogrammed bath towels are plush, classic, and, in this case, earth friendly.

Items for the wedding day

If you’re stumped for what to buy, a cake knife and server set is a perfect gift for the couple’s wedding reception. (Just be sure to let them know that you’d like to purchase it for them in advance so they know the item is covered for the big day.) Engraved champagne flutes will remind them of sipping bubbly while listening to wedding day toasts.

Holiday-themed presents

A winter hurricane candle holder is a present they can bring out each holiday season, reminding them of you and your thoughtful gift around Christmas and Hanukkah.

Best Birthday Gifts for Leo

tribute birthday banner

Known best for their generosity, Leos are fabulous gift-givers who are always quick to share their open hearts and giving natures. With a flair for the dramatic, a tendency to be flashy, and an inventive spirit that can’t be tamed, these signs — aptly represented by a lion and two halves of a heart — can be tough to shop for.

The trick is getting to know what makes a Leo tick and then using that knowledge to find the perfect present, says Lisa Stardust, New York City-based astrologist and bestselling author.

What to know about Leos

Leo (July 22-August 22) is the fifth sign of the zodiac, following the water sign Cancer. As fixed fire signs, Leos are known for their passionate determination, Stardust says. “Leos are not going to change their mind about something once they’ve set it,” she says. “But as a fire sign, they’re the manifestation, or spark, of inspiration. They start things, and they get things done.”

Middle aged woman holding a surfboard on a beach, radiating vita

Leos are also identified with having extravagant tastes, Stardust says. “They’re represented by lions — the kings of the jungle — so they know they’re powerful, but they’re also honest, creative, and have big hearts.”

The planetary ruler of Leos is the sun — a symbol of vitality, Stardust says. True to their summertime sign, Leos like to live life to the fullest.

“On good days, Leos love to be in the sunlight, have a great time, and be open and transparent with their loved ones,” she says. “But it’s important to remember the duality of the signs: Lions might love the sun, but they still sleep in caves.”

Best birthday gifts for Leos

Whether it’s their love of bold colors, wild shocks of hair (common for these lion-represented signs), or their relationships, Leos love to make a statement. Gifting them something that plays into that proclivity, such as satin pillowcases and sheets, cat-eye sunglasses, or even gold jewelry, is a smart way to go, Stardust says.

“Leos are known for liking things that are over the top,” she says. “Something bold — bright colors, strong perfumes — will be a good choice for Leos.”

Stardust says that Leos will also appreciate gifts for their hair. “Like lions, Leos usually have a beautiful mane, so hair-related products will likely go over well.”

Consider hair bows, hair brushes, headband sets, scalp masks, conditioners, hair oils, and anything else a Leo can use to keep their locks looking lovely.

Go-to birthday gifts for Leos

Armed with what we know, there’s no shortage of presents that the Leo in your life will like. Here are five types of birthday gifts for Leos.

Something that grows

The Leo’s flower is, not surprisingly, the sunflower, and you cannot go wrong with a bouquet of these beauties.

birthday gifts for leo woman holding sunflower bouquet

Other gold options, such as yellow mums, are a safe bet, too.

Something for the sun

Leos love their moment in the sun — metaphorically and literally — so gifting them something they can enjoy during the summer is usually a winner, Stardust says.

“When I picture a Leo, I see them standing in the sun with the breeze blowing in their hair,” she says. Things like sun hats, beach tentsbeach towelsbeach bags, and other such gifts are all great options.

Something gold and flashy

“Leos love gold — the color and the jewelry,” Stardust says. “It doesn’t matter if it’s not real gold, either.” Additionally, Leos will love pendants with the sun on them to represent their planetary ruler.

Within the jewelry realm, consider everything from earrings and cufflinks to ringsnecklaces, and bracelets.

And while the jewelry you gift a Leo doesn’t necessarily have to be gold, it should lean toward the more gaudy, Stardust says.

Something to spark creativity

With their tendency to be outside-the-box thinkers, Leos often take up artistic pursuits, so any gift related to music, painting, drawing, acting, and art should be a hit. Stardust says that Leos are likely to enjoy things like drawing materials, painting sets, art (or art classes), or even a karaoke machine (they love to entertain, after all).

Something for their heart

Each zodiac sign is said to rule specific parts of the body. For Leos, one of those parts is the heart, and because of that, Leos tend to be romantic, generous, and dedicated friends and lovers.

Stardust says, “Consider getting them something romantic, like poetry books. They might also like heart-shaped jewelry or a heart pin.”

The Greatest Gifts for Grillmasters

grilling gifts man grilling steaks

Tender caramelized ribs. A thick juicy hamburger. Tin foil packets of shrimp and corn on the cob.

There truly is nothing better than a plate of freshly charred meat and smoked veggies, hot off the grill. And while summer may be the peak of grilling season, any good grillmaster knows that those hot flames — and the delicious feasts they help broil up — are a year-round passion.

A big part of the pastime’s charm, whether you’re grilling on a sweltering afternoon in July or the coldest winter day deep in December, is that it doesn’t take much to master the art of cooking over an open flame. All you need is a good grill and a few other key essentials.

Master griller Steven Raichlen, author of the bestsellers “The Barbecue! Bible” and “How to Grill,” recommends four basic must-haves for every grillmaster’s toolkit: spring-loaded long-handled tongs, a quality grill brush, grilling gloves (for when things get a bit too fiery), and a digital meat thermometer. Spice guru Matt Pittman, founder of Meat Church, offers up a similar list, adding only a good sharp meat knife.

Once you’ve got those basics covered, the mythical grilling universe is yours. There’s a galaxy of incredible products out there to further enhance any griller’s skillset. Stock up on these goodies yourself or gift them to the grillmaster in your life. Whether it’s for a birthdayanniversary, or housewarming, these grilling gifts are sure to bring even more fire — and flavor — to your loved one’s grilling game.

grilling gifts with pro grill set

Grillmaster starter set

Whether for someone who’s new to the grill game or just in need of an upgrade, the Pro Gift Set sports everything you need to man (or woman) the grill, including a fork, spatula, tongs, mitt, chef’s hat, and apron. If you’re getting this gift for a football fan (and, chances are, you are), there’s also a version that you can customize with any NFL team. For a special add-on, consider a set of three barbecue sauces that will add the perfect amount of flavor to that sweet, succulent meat.

grilling gifts grilling collection

Amazing meats

From the most budget-friendly hamburger to out-of-this world filet mignon, every cut of meat tastes best when prepared on a grill. There’s just something extra special — and delicious — about that perfect combination of smoky, earthy, savory, salty, and umami flavors that beef, chicken, and pork unveil when cooked over an open flame. Send the protein they crave, whether that be a collection of steaks and burgers, a sausage sampler, or marinated chicken breasts. Each is delivered fresh to your door just in time for dinner.

Personalized gear

From billowing smoke to dripping sauces to fabric-killing flames, grilling can be a messy business. Help your favorite grillmaster step up to their flames in style with a personalized grill apron. Not the apron type? Customized cutting boards and utensil sets capture the same feel-good vibes (and best grilling wishes) in a gift that will last for years.

Red wine

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got burgers, steak, or ribs on the grill — nothing pairs better with those rich meaty flavors than a good red wine. And with the red wine sampler, you get four bottles to choose from: pinot noir (great with chicken, pork, and lamb), merlot (duck, salmon, tuna), cabernet sauvignon (grilled vegetables), and Ross Lane blend (ribeye, sausage, burgers). Each adds the perfect spirit to any evening spent around the grill.

Incredible seafood

It’s easy to focus on “turf” alone when cooking on a grill, but don’t be afraid to venture out for some “surf” once in a while as well. Snapper, salmonsea bass, and tuna are all great cooked over an open flame. Or fire up a few Maine lobster tails for a truly magical flame-kissed meal.

Decadent sauces

Fuel a month’s worth of incredible meals with a Summer Grilling Gift Box, which comes loaded with everything you need to flavor all your favorite cuts of beef, pork, and chicken. The set includes charred pineapple bourbon grilling sauce, bacon chipotle BBQ sauce, sweet chili finishing sauce, a signature wing sauce, and a peppercorn spice rub.

Whether you like your meat sweet, spicy, or peppery, this trio of spices (Peppercorn Steak, Chili Lime, and Maple Bacon) can be used as a dry rub, to add immediate flavor to meat before you toss it on the grill, or as ingredients in a wet rub, in which you let your meats marinate before grilling. Whatever your strategy, both deliver a potent flavor punch!

Best Birthday Gifts for Cancer Signs

Intuitive, loyal, and emotionally intelligent, Cancers often care more about the thought and effort put into a gift than the gift itself. And that, says Lisa Stardust, a New York City-based astrologist and bestselling author, means you should go the extra mile when shopping for a birthday present for them.

What to know about Cancer signs

Cancer (June 22–July 22) is the fourth sign on the zodiac, following the air sign Gemini. Being a cardinal sign, Cancer marks the start of a new season, in this case summer. Cardinal signs are known for being go-getters and trendsetters, and are often called the “initiators” of the zodiac, Stardust says.

“Cancer season is a time where we’re really embracing our emotions, like Cancers do,” Stardust says. “The days are longer, the sun is heating up, and we’re busy setting new intentions to make things happen.”

Charity, happy and hug with volunteer friends in a park for community, charity or donation of time together. Support, teamwork or sustainability with a black man and friend hugging outdoor in nature

Like most water signs, Cancers are highly sensitive souls. Stardust says Cancers often display a strong connectivity, emotional depth, and connection to nostalgia and sentimentality.

Because of those qualities, Cancers tend to make loyal and true-to-the-end friends.

“They’ll defend you even if they don’t agree with you,” Stardust says. “They’re nurturing, a great shoulder to cry on, and always ready to fight your battles. They’re tough but tenderhearted.”

Cancers are also ruled by the moon, and that has a direct influence on their mood.

“The hearts and minds of Cancers change with the signs and phases of the moon,” Stardust says, “which means they can be quirky, sometimes neurotic, and definitely changeable.”

As they continually seek deep connections with others, Cancers tend to take on a lot of external stressors, which can make them anxious and overwhelmed. Gifting a Cancer things like weighted blanketsrelaxing bath productshealing essential oils, or soothing candles is a great way to help them unwind.

To a Cancer, the saying is true: It’s the thought that counts. These folks will always appreciate a special keepsake or personalized gift — perhaps with an added happy birthday video montage — over a more luxurious or expensive option because it shows the gift-giver gave thoughtful consideration to what the recipient would like.

Go-to birthday gifts for Cancer signs

If you have a close friend or family member who is a Cancer, you know how deeply they care for you. Show them you feel the same way about them with these birthday gift ideas for the Cancer in your life.

Something that grows

Flowers or plants are a good birthday gift for most any zodiac sign. Stardust recommends white roses or lilies, or something white or light gray, to reflect the moon’s influence on them.

Unlike some other signs, Cancers are up for taking care of plants that require more maintenance. These include fiddle-leaf figs and orchids, the 2023 Flower of the Year.

“Cancers love to nurture, care for, and even talk to their plants,” Stardust says.

Something to cook or bake with

Gifting caretaking Cancers presents they can use to cook up something tasty for their loved ones is always a great option, Stardust says. For those who enjoy showing off their grilling skills, consider a selection of high-quality proteins, such as chicken breastssteaks, or seafood…or a combination of all three.

You could also add a little spice to their life, with a gourmet salt collection or maple bacon rub, or give them the tools they need to make meal prep easier, with cutting boardsbakeware, or recipe boxes.

Something nostalgic

“The moon is representative of our memories and how we all relate to them,” Stardust says.

And knowing what we know about Cancers, that means collectibles and sentimental items like photo albums, picture frames, scrapbooks, or board games that take them back to their youth will go over well.

Something for the beach or pool

Like a classic water sign, a Cancer adores spending time beachside, poolside, or even bath-side. In other words, if water is involved, they’re in.

Stardust suggests monogrammed beach towelssun shadesbeach umbrellas, portable speakers, coolers, and beach bags so Cancers can enjoy themselves in and around the water as they were meant to.

The finishing touch is a smoky blue cheese sauce that can double as a dip for a side of fries, chips, or fresh vegetables. The sauce is so good, it can triple as a drink. No judgement.

The Best Gifts for Your Father-In-Law

Like a wine that’s aged, the relationship with your father-in-law tends to get better over time. As the years go by, he starts to come out of his shell to give you advice, share stories, or simply lounge on the couch and watch sports with. He can act as a second father if you need it, a fun uncle, or even an older sibling who likes to tease you (all in good fun, of course!). And as the connection deepens, you’re going to want to show him how happy you are that he’s in your life — and there’s no better way to do that than with Father’s Day gifts, special birthday presents, or even just because gifts.

When looking for something unique, think about his favorite things: Is he a sports fanatic? Does he like trying new foods? Or is he happiest at home snacking on cookies or drinking a cup of coffee?

Whatever he’s into, show him you know him well with a thoughtful father-in-law gift.

Preferred Steak Collection

For the fine diner

The steaks in this gift package are wet-aged for 21 days. The Black Angus Cattle is raised in the Midwest, antibiotic-free, and fed a 100% vegetarian diet to ensure the perfect amount of fat marbling. That’s the script to use when you give your father-in-law this premium collection of top sirloin, New York strip, ribeye, and filet mignon. And if he marks big occasions with fancy dinners, trips to farmers markets and butchers for the finest ingredients, or reservations at trendy new restaurants, he’ll be sure to appreciate it.

For the takeout king

There’s the fine dining father-in-law and then there’s the guy who thinks a special dinner is a burger and fries at a restaurant where the staff wear lots of flair and sing “Happy Birthday” off-key in unison. But what about when he actually has to cook something himself? That’s where this kit comes in: Dad-in-law can assemble a pepperoni and a roasted red pepper pizza in minutes, and then serve it up with a glass of vino for a pizzeria experience right at home. And the premium ingredients, such as uncured pepperoni and Sicilian jack cheese, may be enough to persuade him to opt for a fancier venue the next time he eats out.

When breakfast at your father-in-law’s house starts before the birds start chirping and the newspaper is half-finished before the sun even comes up…well, that’s just the life of an early riser. If your father-in-law likes to start his day at the crack of dawn, this deluxe breakfast box will be a surefire hit. It comes with a variety of berry English muffins, scones, and loaf cakes. And coffee, of course, which, if your father-in-law insists on the family watching the sun rise together, might end up being more for you than him.

The Tailgate Collection

It comes with four half-slabs of pork ribs, 25 all-beef hot dogs, and 12 steak burgers. (Check out the different kinds of burgers you can make!) This high-quality collection can last all throughout the season — and if his lucky jersey has anything to say about it, all through the playoffs, too.

Reserve Pinot Noir and Belgian Chocolate

For the wine critic

Is your father-in-law’s favorite reading material the wine list at every restaurant in town? Is his idea of a perfect day a trek to a winery? Do his weekend errands include a visit to a wine store, where he can talk about the oak in chardonnay and various flavor profiles all day? Then impress him with a bottle of 2018 Reserve Pinot Noir. It even comes with a pairing that will bring out the subtleties of this high-quality wine: a half dozen dark chocolate truffles and a fruit-and-nut chocolate bar. It’s a father-in-law gift that will win you major points with that aspiring sommelier.

Grand Sweet and Salty Gift Box

For the snack fiend

Most people would be thrilled to receive a tower that’s piled high with snacks, but nobody will be happier about it than the father-in-law who loves to nosh. Sitting down to watch TV? Snack time. Some down time between lunch and dinner? Snack time. Playing cards after dinner? Yep: snack time. This gift box, with savory options like trail mix and crackers and sweet treats like raspberry galettes and cookie bars, will satisfy practically any taste.

Hug in Every Bite Bow Gift

For the sweet tooth

If your father-in-law’s favorite meal is dessert, then cookies will always be the answer. Of course, if your father-in-law has had every sweet treat in the grocery store, convenience store, and bodega, you can’t just go out and pick up a generic box of oatmeal raisin. Instead, opt for this gift box, with three different varieties of buttercream-frosted cookies and three classic chocolate chip cookies. Each one is individually wrapped, so he can savor them without worrying that they’ll get stale. One caveat: You’ll ruin him for life from plain old boxed cookies.
