What is your title and what do you do at 1-800-Flowers?
I am the Associate Copywriter in Creative Services, which means I write product descriptions for the website as well as promotional emails, web banners and more. I will have been here a year come January and I love it. Not only do I get to write fun things about our truly original gifts, I also get to work with some of the most talented and creative people you could want to meet.
Our Christmas motto is to “celebrate Christmas with a smile!” What about Christmas makes you smile?
I love the whole atmosphere of Christmas. Everything from the smell of fresh evergreens to the music that fills the air to the warm crackle of a fireplace makes me smile.
I love the whole atmosphere of Christmas!
What is your favorite Christmas gift to receive? I come from a family of musicians, so I usually get drumsticks or guitar strings, of which you can never have too many. But my dad is pretty good at finding me some new kind of drum attachment or a new pedal for the guitar. They’re both fun and practical!
My favorite 1800flowers Christmas product has got to be the Christmas Cactus. Not only is it a unique plant, it comes in a festive drum planter and with the dozens of instruments in my house, it’s a welcome addition to any room.
What is your favorite Christmas tradition to make for a truly traditional holiday?
I come from a very large family and it’s not uncommon for us to have over 40 people at our Christmas celebrations. We span over 4 generations, each one quirkier than the next. Every year we get together the weekend after Christmas and have a crazy party–it just wouldn’t feel like the holidays without that.
1800Flowers is all about holiday decorations. Tell us about your Christmas decorations.
Well, we have Christmas lights on the bushes and a wreath on the door but one of my favorites is this fabric Christmas tree that hangs on the wall with 25 spots for Velcro ornaments to count down the days to Christmas. My mom would have my brother, my sister and I rotate days to put one up. I still get pretty excited when it’s my turn!
Tell us your favorite Christmas story from Christmas pasts.
My next-door neighbors have an annual football game across their front lawn and ours. One year, about 20 of us stood out front cheering and heckling their whole family, and we even did the wave. The following year we decided to bump it up a level and set up a PA system to commentate the whole game. We don’t mess around.
