I’ve learned that one is never too old to learn or try something new or innovative. Where did you grow up and can you tell us a little bit about it? I was born into the floral industry in Brooklyn, New York and am a third generation florist. Other than your fabulous work at 1800flowers, do you have any secret, or not so secret, talents? If so, what are they? It’s no secret that I have a very oratorical personality. What do you do in your spare time? As well as being an Usher in my church, I enjoy bowling, gardening, watching sporting events, and eating out at great restaurants. One of 1800Flowers’ main missions is to deliver smiles. What makes you smile? When someone says: “You’re really 83?”, it makes me smile. What is your favorite food type/dish and dessert? I relish anything my wife cooks; e.g., her “pasta con sarde” and chocolate brownies. Who or what is your biggest inspiration and why? My father was an inspiration to many, especially to me. He was an immigrant entrepreneur, a very honest and gentle man. What rule do you live by? Faith, hope and love will get you through the day. What is your favorite song and/or who is your favorite musical artist? “Tenderly” is a great song and Frank Sinatra, an amazing musical artist. What are your favorite movies and TV programs (past or present)? The movie “Forest Gump” stands out in my mind as well as “Mash” – both the movie and the television show. How long have you been with 1800flowers and how did you get involved with the company? I have been with 1-800 Flowers for 31 years, after I sold my two shops to Jim McCann. What is your favorite 1800flowers product? The “birthday flower cake” and the “a-DOG-able” arrangements are two of my favorite products. What is your job title? Can you tell us about what you do and what is your favorite thing about it? I am a Floral Consultant and enjoy the communication with fellow florists around the country. How did you get into Florist Relations? Over 58 years as a floral designer brought me to this point. What is your favorite flower or plant and why? The rose is America’s favorite flower, as is mine. 1800Flowers is a gifting company. What is your favorite gift to receive? A vase of roses, in assorted colors, is a favorite gift.
