Patty Altadonna, Administrative Assistant

What is your job title and what do you do at 1-800-Flowers? How long have you been with the company? What do you like best about your job? My job title is Administrative Assistant to the CEO. My job consists of scheduling meetings, coordinating travel for conferences, speaking engagements and business meetings for Jim, handling his correspondence and files and making sure the office runs smoothly. I’ve been with 1-800-Flowers for just about 20 years. I heard about the position and applied. Happy I did! Since this is our special Administrative Professionals Week edition of the Employee Spotlight, what do you love most about your job? I have always worked in the Administrative Assistant field in various industries; education, electronics, banking and finally for I knew in high school that this was what I wanted to do. I have always loved this kind of work. I get to work for a great boss and with some really wonderful people—and the absolute best thing that happened here was meeting my husband, Jeff! At 1-800-Flowers we’re all about creating truly original arrangements. What is your favorite truly original arrangement to receive for Administrative Professionals Week? There are many, but one of my favorites is Garden of Grandeur™–it has a great variety of flowers. I also love the holiday cookies and cookie jars from Cheryl’s. I send them to my niece’s family for the holidays. I also send different Fannie May® and Popcorn Factory® products to my mom–always a special treat for her. One of 1800Flowers’ main missions is to deliver smiles. What makes you smile? Being around the people I love and sharing good times with good friends.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned working at 1800Flowers? You have to work as a team. No one is a success just on their own. You have to be connected to others. 1800Flowers is a gifting company. What is your favorite gift to receive? I love receiving flowers. They brighten up any room in your home. What is your favorite flower or plant and why? I love Alstroemeria. It’s so delicate and simple, and it lasts a long time. My favorite plant is the hydrangea. Again, it has a delicate flower; especially the lace hydrangea. We have a couple of these plants just outside our kitchen window at home. I really love them.
