According to research done by NASA and Dr. Bill Wolverton, many common houseplants and blooming potted plants:
- Are extremely efficient at scrubbing harmful gases (VOCs - volatile organic compounds) such as trichloroethylene, benzene, formaldehyde and carbon monoxide from the air through the process of photosynthesis (1).
- Are nature's "life support systems" because of their ability to remove toxic contaminants from their surrounding environments (2).
